Junior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) singled home senior Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the San Diego State softball team a 1-0, walkoff victory over Brigham Young Saturday at SDSU Softball Stadium.

The win came one night after the Aztecs (28-16, 4-2 Mountain West Conference) fell to the Cougars (24-15, 2-1 MWC) by the same score in eight innings. It snapped BYU's 12-game winning streak.

Camello got into scoring position after hitting a one-out single and moving to second when Brigham Young right fielder Delaney Willard misplayed the ball. After a popout, Maeva took the first pitch she saw up the middle for the game-winner.

Junior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) kept the Cougar hitters off balanced the whole game, allowing five hits and a walk over the eight-inning shutout. She struck out eight. Over the weekend, the right-hander posted a 0.37 ERA over 19 innings, while striking out 17 against two walks.

Micetich was backed by a strong defense, led by infielders Maeva (first base), redshirt senior Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) (second base), senior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) (shortstop) and junior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) (third base).

Camello and Maeva each reached twice with a single and a walk, while Marquez, sophomore Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) and sophomore Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) added singles. Wisneski had her 15-game hitting streak snapped after going 0-for-2 with a walk.

SDSU wraps up a four-game homestand Saturday when it hosts UNLV at 1 p.m. PT.
