The San Diego State women's golf team cut five strokes off its first-round score, but remains in fifth place after day two of the 2011 Mountain West Conference Championships on Friday at the par-72, 6,408-yard Wigwam Golf Course. The Aztecs shot an 8-over 296 which puts them in a tie with Colorado State at 21-over 597, five strokes in back of fourth-place New Mexico.

SDSU sophomore Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) fired the team's best round of the tournament thus far with a 73 to move from 20th into a tie for 15th place with a 5-over 149. Clark birdied the 15th hole, but then bogeyed the next two before bouncing back with a birdie on the 18th to end up at 1-over par.

Junior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) birdied two of her final four holes, but had her effort offset by a double bogey on the 17th to card her second consecutive 75 and tie teammate Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy), who had a second-round 74, for 18th place at 6-over 150.

Aztec senior Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.), who led the team with an opening-round 74, had trouble on just one hole all day, the par-4, 17th, which she quadruple bogeyed. Otherwise, Arcala was a combined 1-over on the remaining 17 holes, but ended up dropping from 11th into a tie for 21st place.

Sophomore Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) was 1-under par until once again finding her nemesis on the par-5 18th hole, carding a triple bogey one day after notching a quadruple bogey. Wong still erased three strokes off her previous round and moved from 26th to 21st with Arcala at 7-over 151.

UNLV extended its team lead by one more stroke over second place TCU, boasting a 36-hole total of 2-over 578. Two Lady Rebels, Ellis Keenan and Therese Koelbaek, are tied atop the individual leaderboard along with BYU's Maggie Yuan at 3-under 141.

Saturday's final round tees off for the Aztecs at 7:45 a.m. PT, where they will be paired with New Mexico.
