The San Diego State women's golf team is in fifth place through 18 holes Thursday at the 2011 Mountain West Conference Championships at the par-72, 6,408-yard Wigwam Golf Course. The Aztecs shot a 13-over 301 in day one action of the 54-hole tournament and are just one stroke in back of Colorado State, which recorded a 12-over 300.

SDSU was poised to end the round in the No. 4 spot, but sophomore Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.), who carded a birdie just one hole earlier, quadruple bogeyed the par-4 18th, which meant a three-stroke swing in the standings for the Aztecs. Had she made par, Wong would have been tied for ninth place on the individual leaderboard, but instead dropped all the way to 26th place with her 77.

Senior Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) leads the team through 18 holes, logging a 2-over 74 to sit in a six-way tie for 11th place. Arcala fired a birdie, three bogeys and 14 pars, including 12 on her final 13 holes. Aztec junior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) is one stroke behind her in a tie for 17th place with a 75, while sophomores Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) and Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) are knotted in 20th place at 4-over 76.

UNLV currently leads both the team and individual races, as it posted a 2-under 286 to hold a two-stroke advantage over second place TCU. The Lady Rebels have two of the top three golfers, including leader Ellis Keenan, who shot a 4-under 68.

Friday's second round gets underway for the Aztecs at 7:45 a.m. PT from the first tee, where they will be paired with Colorado State.
