SAN DIEGO - San Diego State University senior Giovanni Vaglietti has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. This marks the first time Vaglietti has received the award and the first time an Aztec has been honored this season.

Vaglietti, a 5-9 senior hailing from Johannesburg, South Africa, went undefeated over the course of two SDSU contests. On April 7 against Utah, he paired with doubles partner freshman Hunter Nicholas at the No. 1 position to defeat the Utes' top pairing of Benito Suriano and Alejandro Medinilla, 8-5, helping SDSU claim the doubles point. The senior then went on to defeat Ute Dmytro Mamedov at the top of the singles lineup, 7-2, 2-6, 10-5, leading the Aztecs to a 6-1 conference victory.

On April 9, Vaglietti was responsible for both SDSU points in a 5-2 defeat at home against No. 36 Brigham Young. Vaglietti and Nicholas first helped SDSU claim the doubles point and a 1-0 lead when they won the No. 1 position doubles match against Georgy Batrakov and Thomas Shubert, 8-6. The senior then went on to defeat Evan Urbina at the top of the singles lineup, 6-3, 7-6 (5).

Vaglietti is riding a three-event dual match win streak in singles play and is 6-2 in doubles play since March 13. He and the rest of the Aztecs will be back in action on April 15 when they take on cross-town rival San Diego at 5 p.m. PT at the Aztec Tennis Center.
