SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior linebacker Miles Burris was named to the GoDaddy.com 2011 Preseason All-American team on Wednesday, as a third-team selection. The squad is presented by NationalChamps.net every year to honor the nation's best players going into the new season.
Burris is coming off a breakout 2010 year for SDSU in which he led the Aztecs to a 9-4 season record, capped off by a 35-14 win against Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl for the school's first bowl game victory since 1969. The Granite Bay, Calif., native recorded team-leading totals in tackles (80), tackles for a loss (20) and sacks (9.5). He was also the Mountain West Conference's sack and tackles for a loss leader and was named to the all-MWC first team.
Sophomore running back Ronnie Hillman, sophomore tight end Gavin Escobar and senior punter Brian Stahovich also received honorable mention recognition to the GoDaddy.com 2011 Preseason All-American team.
The San Diego State football team will look to continue to build on its recent success when it kicks off the 2011 season on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Qualcomm Stadium against Cal Poly.
