The San Diego State softball team was shut out by No. 23/22 Baylor, 3-0, in the final game of the 21st Campbell/Cartier Classic Tuesday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. Playing their 10th nationally ranked opponent in the last 15 games, the Aztecs dropped to 8-11 on the season.

The Bears (20-2) scored all three of their runs in the top of the fifth inning with one out. Dani Leal had a bases loaded, two-run double and Holly Holl added an RBI single one batter later. Senior All-American pitcher Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) then got SDSU out of another bases loaded jam by striking out Clare Hosack and Sydney Wilson to end the inning.

San Diego State got a runner to third base in both the third and seventh inning, but was unable to get a run across the plate.

Junior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) was 2-for-2 with a double to lead the Aztec offense. Redshirt senior Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) had SDSU's other hit and drew a walk, while seniors Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) and Eva Sahatdjian (Fresno, Calif.) each reached safely on a walk.

Whitney Canion tossed four scoreless innings with four strikeouts to improve to 8-1 for Baylor. Courtney Repka allowed one hit and two walks over the final three to pick up her second save of the season.

San Diego State travels to College Station, Texas, to compete in the Aggie Invitational beginning on March 11. The Aztecs will play No. 22/24 Texas A&M and Mississippi Valley State twice and Louisiana Tech once over the three-day tournament.
