The San Diego State Softball team took an early lead but was unable to hold on in a 3-1 loss to No. 6/9 UCLA Saturday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs (8-9) lost their eighth game of the season to a nationally ranked school, and seventh to a top-10 team and 2010 Women's College World Series foe.

SDSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when senior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) singled home freshman Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS). Klopp had led off with a single and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by junior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.). One batter later, Wisneski laced a single past the Bruin (15-4 before the night game against Cal Poly) third baseman and put San Diego State on the scoreboard.

Kellie Fox came through twice for UCLA, however, first with a two-run home run in the third and then a solo homer in the fifth to give the defending national champions its second win over the Aztecs this season.

Klopp had two of SDSU's six hits, while freshman Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) singled and drew a walk.

San Diego State senior All-American Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) (2-3) took the loss after scattering three runs on seven hits and two walks over seven innings. She struck out seven.

The Bruins' Jessica Hall (9-3) picked up the win after allowing one run on six hits and a walk. She had four strikeouts over seven innings.

The Aztecs continue their play in the 21st Campbell/Cartier Classic Sunday with a game against Cal Poly, beginning at 2 p.m. PT.
