SAN DIEGO - No. 9 San Diego State returned to Aztec Aquaplex following a weekend in Irvine, Calif., and dropped a 12-4 decision to top-ranked Stanford on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Aztecs fall to 9-7 overall and 0-2 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action.

The Cardinal scored the first four goals of the contest and never looked back. Annika Dries found the back of the net 30 seconds into the game and was followed by Kim Krueger, who notched a goal with 4:47 left in the frame. Stanford continued its scoring run with an Alyssa Lo 6-on-5 goal and Victoria Kennedy posted the Cardinal's final score with under a minute to play. SDSU's Amber Pezzolla ended the Aztecs' scoring drought with 23 seconds left on the game clock when her shot went bar-in after San Diego State earned a power-play chance.

The Aztecs cut Stanford's lead in half when Leanne Ford's attempt ricocheted off a Cardinal player and past Amber Oland after both sides were held scoreless for the first 4:20 of the period. And despite numerous saves by SDSU goalkeeper Kelly Campoli, the All-American could not stop two Vee Dunlevie attempts as the sophomore from Atherton, Calif., netted a pair of goals in the final 3:10 to give Stanford a 6-2 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, San Diego State, again, cut its deficit in half, 6-3, when Alex Ford scored off a skip shot from eight meters. The Cardinal, however, answered with goals from Dries and Melissa Seidemann, to move ahead 8-3. For the second time in the game, the Aztecs converted a 6-on-5 opportunity when Samantha Voigt scored, which made the score 8-4. Then to end the quarter, Stanford received single goals from Dries and Cassie Churnside to move ahead by six entering the final eight minutes.

Seidemann made it a seven-goal game with her second goal and Stanford tacked on a final goal from Kennedy with 43 seconds left to close out the contest.

The Aztecs are back in action on Sunday when they play host to UC Irvine at Aztec Aquaplex at 1 p.m.
