The San Diego State softball team dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 23/rv Fresno State Friday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs (8-8), who are receiving votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, left a runner on base in each of the seven innings in the loss, including three in scoring position.

Fresno State jumped out to a 2-0 lead with scores in the first (wild pitch) and the third inning (RBI double by Courtney Moore), before SDSU got on the scoreboard in the fourth.

Junior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) led off with a double and was replaced by pinch-runner Roshana Lavery (San Diego/Mission Bay HS). After advancing to third base on a wild pitch, Lavery raced home on freshman Lorena Klopp's (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) short fly ball in foul territory to the Bulldogs' (8-1) second baseman.

San Diego State tried to tie the game in the fifth after freshman Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) singled and got to third with one out. The Aztecs, however, were unable to get Miles across the plate and never threatened again.

Miles had two hits to lead SDSU, while senior Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) tripled and Maeva had the RBI double.

Klopp (1-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on two hits and four walks over 2 2/3 innings. She struck out three. Junior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, yielding just three hits. She struck out six against one walk.

San Diego State continues its play in the Campbell/Cartier Classic Saturday with a 6 p.m. PT game against No. 6/9 UCLA.
