COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) has been named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the first career weekly honor for Maeva.
Maeva led SDSU to a 4-0 record at the Stanford Invitational over the weekend, including a 3-2 win over the host and No. 13/12 Cardinal on Sunday. Maeva batted .643 (9-for-14) with four RBIs over the four games and led the team in batting average, at-bats, hits and on-base percentage (.643). She also had two doubles and had at least two hits in all four contests. In addition, Maeva was perfect in the field over 18 chances.
On Friday, Maeva was 2-for-4 with a run scored in San Diego State's 7-2 victory over Sacramento State. Later in the night, she went 3-for-3 with a double in the Aztecs' 5-4 triumph over Pacific.
On Sunday, Maeva was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs with a bases loaded double to lift SDSU to an 8-0, run-rule victory over Pacific in five innings. In the nightcap, she went 2-for-4 with an RBI as San Diego State downed No. 13/12 Stanford, 3-2, in eight innings.
On the season, Maeva is batting .368 with eight doubles, three home runs and 22 RBIs. Maeva ranks in a tie for third in the MWC in RBIs, fifth in doubles, sixth in batting average and on-base percentage (.434), and eighth in slugging percentage (.547).
The Aztecs play a home-and-home series with San Diego this weekend, beginning Saturday with a 1 p.m. PT game at SDSU Softball Stadium.
