SDSU 7, Sacramento State 2 | SDSU 5, Pacific 4

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Freshman Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) went a combined 4-for-6 with five RBIs to lead the San Diego State softball team to a sweep on the first day of the Stanford Invitational Friday in Palo Alto, Calif. The Aztecs (18-14), who have won 10 of their last 13 games, defeated Sacramento State, 7-2, before knocking off Pacific, 5-4, on sophomore Kristin May's (Corona, Calif.) walkoff sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the opener, SDSU broke open a 2-2 game with two runs in the top of the fifth inning and three more in the seventh for the 7-2 victory over the Hornets (7-12).

Miles finished the game a double short of hitting for the cycle and drove in a career-high four runs. Miles had her first career triple in the first, singled in the fifth and hit a three-run homer (the first of her career) in the seventh.

Freshman Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) added a two-run home run in the fifth to extend her single-season school record with her ninth of the year, while redshirt senior Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) had two hits, including a triple, and scored two runs. Junior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) added two hits and senior Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) singled, scored a run and stole base.

Sophomore Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) got the win for San Diego State after allowing just two hits over four scoreless innings of relief. She struck out three to improve to 1-0 on the season. Senior All-American Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) tossed the first three innings and gave up two runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out six.

In the nightcap, the Aztecs held off two Tiger (16-10) rallies before finishing the game in the bottom of the seventh. Maeva led off with a single and was replaced by redshirt sophomore Roshana Lavery (San Diego/Mission Bay HS). Lavery moved to second one batter later on a wild pitch and got to third after Miles was hit by a pitch and Kamerin May singled. Lavery then raced home on Kristin May's fly ball to right field, giving SDSU the thrilling 5-4 win.

Maeva was 3-for-3 with a double to pace the San Diego State offense. Senior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) doubled twice and Kamerin May added two hits. Camello scored two runs and Miles added an RBI single.

Beasley (6-6) picked up the win after tossing the final 2 2/3 innings. She yielded a run on three walks and two hits, while striking out five. Junior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) gave up three runs on eight hits over the first 4 1/3 innings. She struck out five and did not walk a batter.

The Aztecs play Coastal Carolina tomorrow (Saturday) at 11 a.m. PT.
