In a 17-school field ranked entirely among the nation's top 51, the tournament host San Diego State women's golf team is currently tied for 10th place with a 21-over 309 Sunday at the inaugural 2011 Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn. The No. 43 Aztecs are tied with No. 36 Oregon and are just three strokes out of 10th through 18 holes on the par-72, 6,336-yard championship course.

SDSU was led by sophomore Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.), who logged four birdies en route to a first-round 1-over 73 to tie for ninth place. Senior Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) matched that four-birdie effort but also added six bogeys to her eight pars to tie for 19th at 2-over 74.

Clark and Arcala are the only Aztecs in the top 60, as sophomore Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.), along with individual competitors senior Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) and redshirt freshman Rebecca Schneider (Cave Creek, Ariz.), are all in 66th place in the 95-participant field with an 80.

SDSU junior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) was at 4-over par through the first 13 holes, but then carded four bogeys and a double bogey to finish the day at 10-over to tie for 77th place. Sophomore Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) rounded out the contingent in a tie for 84th with a 12-over 84.

Third-ranked UCLA leads the team race with a 5-over 293 by one stroke over No. 18 UC Davis and by two strokes over defending national champion and No. 7 Purdue. Arizona State's Giulia Molinaro posted the low round of the day with a 3-under 69, to sit atop the individual leaderboard.

The start of Monday's second round has been pushed back an hour in anticipation of inclement weather later this evening. Teams will tee off from both the No. 1 and No. 10 holes as early as 9 a.m. PDT.
