Final Stats

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team used a five-run fifth inning to break open the game and go on to claim a 6-0 victory over visiting Saint Louis Tuesday in a non-conference contest at the SDSU Softball Stadium. With the victory, the Aztecs improved to 12-13 overall, while the Billikens dropped to 15-10 on the year.

Two Aztec pitchers combined for the shutout with junior Bailey Micetich earning the start and going three innings, while allowing just two hits and striking out four. Senior Samantha Beasley (4-5) garnered the victory after also giving up two hits and logging seven strikeouts in the final four innings.

Six different SDSU players had at least one of the team's nine hits, including designated hitter Justeen Maeva and outfielder Felicia Reifschneider, who both tallied two apiece. Maeva was 2-for-4 on the night with her three RBIs all coming on her second home run of the season, which cleared the fence in left-center field with one out in the fifth inning. Jessica Camello, Hayley Miles and Kamerin May drove in the team's other three runs.

The game was scoreless through two and a half innings until SDSU pushed across the first run in the bottom of the third when pinch runner Roshana Lavery scored on a two-out double to center by Camello. The Aztecs then tagged on five runs in the fifth, sending 11 hitters to the plate, highlighted by a triple from Lindsey Marquez, a double by Miles and the home run from Maeva.

Saint Louis had just five runners reach base with four via a hit and another on a hit by pitch. The Billikens advanced only one runner to third base in the third inning when Kristin Nicoletti tagged a one-out double past Aztec third baseman Ashley Rose. Nicoletti eventually reached third, but was left stranded as both Kerri Dockins and Alyson Brand grounded out to end the threat.

SDSU will be in action again on Thursday evening, when it plays host to Harvard at 7 p.m. in day-one action of the San Diego Classic II, which runs from March 17-20.
