MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Kristen Meier set a San Diego State record in the final round of the platform diving competition at the Zone E regional championships in Minneapolis on Saturday. Her score of 240.50 broke the former Aztecs best of 229.05 that she had set on Feb. 25 at the Mountain West Conference Championships.
Meier finished sixth of 19 divers after the finals with a total score of 472.70 after placing sixth in the prelims with a mark of 232.20. The junior from Walden, N.Y., ended her weekend at the Zone meet with a fifth-place finish ion the three-meter springboard after a 10th-place showing in the one-meter springboard.
Freshman Anna Steiner finished Saturday's platform diving in 10th place with a total score of 437.00. Her mark of 234.15 in the final round was not only a personal best, it goes down as the second-best score in the vent in SDSU history.
Although neither Meier nor Steiner qualified for next week's NCAA Championships, San Diego State will have a pair of swimmers competing at the national meet in Austin, Texas.
Sophomore Katelyn Weddle will swim both the 100 and 200 breaststroke while freshman Kelly Marquenie will compete in the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyle events. The NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Texas, get under on Thursday, March 17.
