COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The San Diego State softball team split a pair of games on the first day of the Aggie Invitational Friday in College Station, Texas. The Aztecs (9-12) shut out Mississippi Valley State, 7-0, in the opener before falling to host and No. 22/24 Texas A&M, 9-1, in five innings.

In the opener, every SDSU starter had at least one hit of the team's season-high 13 in the 7-0 romp over the Devilettes.

Four San Diego State players had two hits apiece, led by redshirt senior Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.), who had a double, a triple, an RBI and tied her career high with three runs scored. Freshman Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) was 2-for-2 with two doubles, two walks, an RBI and a run, while senior Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) (2-for-3, two runs) and junior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) (2-for-4, RBI) each added multiple-hit games.

Freshman Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) hit her fifth home run of the season, which already ties her for fifth in Aztec single-season history, and sophomore Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) had two RBIs.

Senior All-American Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) (3-4) got the win after striking out five in 2 2/3 innings of relief. She allowed two hits and three walks. Klopp went 1 1/3 innings to start the game and gave up a hit and two walks, while striking out one. May tossed a perfect final three innings with two strikeouts to pick up her first career save.

In the nightcap, Texas A&M (16-6) scored six unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to a 9-1, run-rule victory over SDSU.

San Diego State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Camello singled home senior Eva Sahatdjian (Fresno, Calif.).

The Aggies responded after an Aztec error with one out kept the inning going. One out later, Texas A&M put together four consecutive extra-base hits, including three homers, to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Two more home runs in the fourth wrapped up the scoring in the game for the Aggies.

Camello was 2-for-2, her second two-hit game of the day, with an RBI, while Maeva, Klopp and senior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) also singled for SDSU.

Junior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) took the loss after allowing six runs (all unearned) on four hits and two walks over 1 2/3 innings. The right-hander struck out two to drop to 5-7 on the season. May gave up three runs on five hits over the final 2 1/3 innings.

San Diego State continues its play in the Aggie Invitational with two games on Saturday. The Aztecs will meet Louisiana Tech at 10 a.m. CT and No. 22/24 Texas A&M at 5:15 p.m. CT.
