Bruin Wave Invitational 36-Hole Results in PDF Format
San Diego State sophomore Christine Wong shot an even-par 72 to lead the Aztecs in the second round of the 54-hole Bruin Wave Invitational Tuesday in Santa Clarita, Calif. Wong is one of four Aztecs in the top 20, as SDSU sits in fourth place out of 15 schools with a 21-over 597.
Wong (Richmond, B.C.) started her day with eight straight pars before picking up a birdie right before the turn at No. 9. The sophomore continued her solid play with three more pars, a birdie on No. 13 and another par on No. 14, before bogeying two of the final four holes to finish at even and in a tie for 11th place.
Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), who opened the day in first place after shooting a 69 on Monday, struggled on Tuesday, shooting an 8-over 80. Her front nine was a respectable 1-over par, but a double bogey on No. 10 and five bogeys the rest of the way dropped her into a tie for 15th place at +5.
Senior Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) and sophomore Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.), who each shot a 3-over 75 on Monday, matched their scores on Tuesday with a pair of 75s. Arcala's second round featured three birdies, as did Clark's. The duo's 6-over 150 puts them in a tie for 19th place heading into Wednesday's final 18.
Sophomore Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy), who is competing as an individual, shaved four strokes off her first-round score and posted a 4-over 76. Her performance propelled her up 12 spots and into a tie for 45th place. Senior Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) finished out the Aztec starting five with an 82 to put her in a tie for 58th place.
Third-ranked and tournament co-host UCLA currently leads the team race by a healthy nine-stroke margin over No. 27 Pepperdine, as it is the only squad under par at 1-under 575.
San Diego State will return to the course on Wednesday at 8 a.m. for the third and final round.
