With play suspended due to darkness halfway through the second round, the 15th-ranked San Diego State men's golf team is currently tied for second place with Oregon after posting a 2-under 282 in the first 18 holes Monday at the USC Collegiate Invitational in Westlake Village, Calif. The Aztecs had all five of their golfers in the individual top 25 and trail day-one leader and top-ranked UCLA, which shot a 4-under 280, by only two strokes.

SDSU got a standout effort from the team's lone senior in Johan Carlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), who fired a first-round 3-under 68 to tie for third place, just one stroke behind co-leaders Oregon's Robbie Ziegler and UCLA's Patrick Cantlay. Carlsson had a par on each of his first seven holes, before pulling off four birdies over a seven-hole span. He finished with five birdies against just two bogeys, which came on the second and 12th holes.

Aztec freshman Todd Baek (Auckland, New Zealand) and junior J.J. Spaun (San Dimas, Calif.) both posted 10 pars, four birdies and four bogeys in the first round to tie for 14th place at even-par. Teammates junior Alex Kang (Oak Park, Calif.) and sophomore Tom Berry (New Haw, England) are one stroke behind the duo in a tie for 23rd place with a 1-over 72.

The field is scheduled to complete the second round beginning at 7:30 a.m. PT, and then will start the final 18 holes immediately afterwards on Tuesday. Live results are available on golfstat.com as well as goaztecs.com.
