The San Diego State softball team fell to No. 3/1 Arizona in the final game of the Cathedral City Classic on Sunday. The Aztecs, who are receiving votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, dropped to 6-7 with the loss, while the Wildcats improved to 12-2.

Playing its sixth top-10 opponent and 2010 Women's College World Series foe in its last nine games, SDSU managed only five hits against UA All-American pitcher Kenzie Fowler. Nine of San Diego State's 13 games this season have been against teams who made last year's NCAA tournament.

Redshirt senior Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) had two hits to lead the Aztec offense, while sophomore Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) reached base safely twice on a single and a walk. Junior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) and freshman Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) each added a hit apiece.

After allowing three runs in the bottom of the first inning, the SDSU pitching staff kept Arizona off the board until Alex Levine's two-run homer in the sixth. The Wildcats came into the weekend with a .330 batting average with 26 home runs over their first 11 games.

Junior Bailey Micetich (4-5) took the loss after surrendering three runs on six hits and a walk over three innings. Senior All-American Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) gave up two runs on two hits and two walks over three innings of relief. She struck out four.

San Diego State plays host to the prestigious five-day Campbell/Cartier Classic beginning Thursday with a doubleheader against Long Beach State (4:30 p.m. PT) and No. 23/23 Houston (7 p.m. PT).
