SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The voting for this year's coveted Bob Cousy Award is fast approaching and with a March 8 deadline, D.J. Gay supporters are encouraged to log on and vote. Fans can cast their vote by visiting www.cousyaward.com.
The fan vote aspect for this is important; it gives fans the opportunity to help their favorite player win the award. This year's competition is steep, so, every vote counts.
Gay currently ranks second on the team in scoring (11.9) and leads SDSU in assists (3.3) and minutes played (34.5). In Mountain West Conference action, Gay is averaging 11.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 37.2 minutes. He also ranks first in the MWC in assist-to-turnover ratio for all games (3.03) and league-only contests (5.10).
Bob Cousy Award screening committee's will review the nominations submitted and release finalists lists of 20, 10 and finally down to 5 before the selection committee meets via conference call to decide the winner. The final lists of 20, 10 and 5 will represent voting from all three Divisions in college basketball. A premier Selection Committee will be appointed by the Hall of Fame to review the final five candidates in contention for the award. The Selection Committee will be comprised of up to 30 members representing the following constituent groups: Hall of Famers, Head Coaches from each NCAA Division, Sports Information Directors and the Media.
The winner of the 2011 Bob Cousy Award will be awarded at the Hall of Fame's Class Announcement on Monday April 4 in Houston, Texas, as part of NCAA Final Four weekend.
