SAN DIEGO - The 22nd-ranked San Diego State softball team split a pair of games on the first day of the San Diego Classic I Thursday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs (5-2), who are ranked No. 22 by ESPN.com/USA Softball and receiving votes by USA Today/NFCA, downed Sacramento State, 4-2, before falling to back-to-back Women's College World Series participant Missouri, 9-1, in five innings.

In the opener, junior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) tossed a complete game five-hitter to lead SDSU to a 4-2 victory over the Hornets (0-3). Micetich (3-1) allowed two runs (one earned) over seven innings, while striking out a season-high eight batters. She only yielded one walk to the first batter of the game.

Micetich was helped by a San Diego State offense that had three extra-base hits, including first career triples by sophomore Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) and junior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.).

The Aztecs fell behind, 1-0, after one inning, but bounced back with four unanswered runs.

In the third, May led off with a triple to right-center field and scored on Rose's single through the right side. It was Rose's turn to score in the fifth when she advanced home after a one-out triple and a Jessica Camello (Temeucla, Calif.) single. SDSU tacked on two more in the sixth on a fielder's choice RBI by senior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) and an RBI groundout by May.

Junior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) doubled for San Diego State's other extra-base hit.

In the nightcap, the Tigers (1-0), who are ranked eighth by USA Today/NFCA and 10th by ESPN.com/USA Softball, broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth in a 9-1, run-rule victory.

Most of the damage was done with the long ball as Ashley Fleming (two-run), Nicole Hudson (solo) and Jenna Marston (three-run) each homered for Missouri off Aztec senior All-American pitcher Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS).

For the game, Beasley (1-1) allowed seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and a walk over four innings. Seven of her 12 recorded outs were strikeouts. Freshman Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) relieved Beasley in the fifth and gave up two runs on four hits over one inning.

SDSU's only run came in the bottom of the fourth when senior Eva Sahatdjian's (Fresno, Calif.) two-out single scored pinch-runner Roshana Lavery (San Diego/Mission Bay HS) from second base. Wisneski and sophomore Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) also singled for San Diego State.

The Aztecs continue their play in the San Diego Classic I on Friday with a solo game against Northwestern at 7 p.m. PT.
