The San Diego State women's golf team has three players in the top 10 and is currently atop the leaderboard by three strokes through two rounds Monday at the Gold Rush tournament at the par-72, 6,108-yard Yorba Linda Country Club in Yorba Linda, Calif. The Aztecs posted a day-one, 36-hole total of 39-over 615, highlighted by an opening round 305, and are two strokes ahead of event host Long Beach State and 12 up on third-place Portland State.

The three Aztecs currently in the top 10 individually are senior Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.), who is in fifth place at 7-over 151, sophomore Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), who is tied for sixth place with an 8-over 152, and sophomore Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.), who is tied for eighth with a day-one total of 10-over 154.

The team's top finisher at last week's spring opener in Arizona, Arcala leads the 65-golfer field with 27 pars in the 36 holes. She had a birdie in each of the two rounds on the par-3 eighth hole, which was offset by a pair of double bogeys and five bogeys. Enarsson, meanwhile, had a team-best five birdies and matched Arcala's second-round 75.

Clark had an outstanding first 18 holes, tying for first place with day-one leader Simone Hoey of Long Beach State, with a 1-over 73, including four birdies, nine pars and five bogeys. In the second round, however, she bogeyed half the holes and ended up with a 9-over 81 to drop into a still respectable three-way tie for eighth place with a 154.

Sophomore Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) is the fourth Aztec in the top 20 with back-to-back 79s to tie for 18th place, while classmate Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy), who is competing as an individual, is in 27th at 18-over 162. SDSU senior Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) dropped from 33rd to 50th place after her second-round 85, and redshirt freshman Rebecca Schneider (Cave Creek, Ariz.), whose scores are not counting toward the team total, is in 56th place with a 169 in her first spring event.

Hoey has a one-stroke lead over Portland State's Alexia Brown in the race for medalist honors with a 3-over 147, highlighted by a field-best seven birdies.

The third and final round will get underway on Tuesday for San Diego State, beginning at 7:50 a.m. PT with tee times from the first hole.
