SAN DIEGO - The ninth-ranked San Diego State water polo team will face off against No. 20 Marist at 3 p.m. PT on Friday at the Aztec Aquaplex. SDSU will then travel to the UC San Diego Triton Invitational and open play against Sonoma State at 11:10 a.m. on Saturday at the Canyonview Aquatic Center.
The Aztecs (4-1) are coming off a 9-3 win against Long Beach State and will be looking to pick up their third straight victory. Marist, meanwhile, will attempt to start off its 2011 campaign with a win. Both teams are also participating in the UCSD Triton Invite during the weekend, but are in different groups. Marist is in Bracket C, while the Aztecs are in Bracket D.
The three other teams in Bracket D are No. 11 UC Irvine, Maryland and Sonoma State, which will be SDSU's first opponent. The Aztecs have already played Sonoma State this season, handily defeating them, 24-3, at the UCSB Winter Invite. Depending on the result of this matchup, SDSU will either play UCI or Maryland, which is receiving votes in the top-20 poll, on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday results will determine when and who the Aztecs will play on Sunday at the La Jolla campus. Full schedule and results can be found online at ucsdtritons.com.
