COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State men's basketball sophomore forward Kawhi Leonard has been named Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league announced this morning. Leonard picks up his third award of the season and sixth of his career. He shares the honor with BYU's Jimmer Fredette.
A native of Riverside, Calif., Leonard registered back-to-back double-doubles in SDSU's road win at Colorado State and home victory vs. TCU.
Against CSU, Leonard scored 12 points, grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and had a game-high four assists. His double-double was his fifth in his last six games and his 15th of the season. His 15-rebound effort was his fourth such performance of 2010-11 and he led the team in rebounding for the 16th time this season.
In the home game vs. TCU, Leonard continued his double-double streak with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The double-double was his sixth in his last seven outings, 16th of the season and 33rd of his career. Leonard posted his 21st double-figure scoring effort of the season and his 45th of his career. Leonard also had two assists, a team-best one blocked shot and a game-high one steal.
For the week, Leonard averaged 11.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists, as the Aztecs improved to 23-1 overall and 8-1 in the MWC.
