No. 7/6 San Diego State and Colorado State Meet in a Game Between Upper Division Mountain West Teams on Wednesday Night at Moby Arena
San Diego State (21-1 overall; 6-1 MWC), ranked seventh in the Associated Press poll, sixth in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll and fourth in the Rating Percentage Index, plays its fifth road game of the opening half of Mountain West Conference play on Wednesday night at Moby Arena when the Aztecs face Colorado State (15-6 overall; 5-2 MWC).
Game time is set for 7 p.m. MT (6 p.m. PT) and the game will be televised in high definition by CBS College (San Diego Cox Cable 321, San Diego Time Warner 415, DirecTV channel 613, Dish Network channel 152, AT&T U-Verse 1643) and simulcast in the San Diego market on Channel 4 San Diego and in Orange County on Cox 3. The game can also be heard on radio in Southern California on AM 600 KOGO.
San Diego State, one of two one-loss teams in the country (Kansas), ran its homecourt winning streak to 15 games and its winning streak over unranked teams to 30 on Saturday with a 96-57 victory over Wyoming. The Aztecs rebounded from their first loss of the season - a 71-58 defeat at ninth-ranked Brigham Young on Wednesday, by scoring the first 14 points of the game and racing to a 53-22 halftime advantage. San Diego State never trailed in the game and led by double figures for the final 31:56 in claiming the largest margin of victory in the school's Mountain West history.
Every active member on the San Diego State roster scored in the game and eight different players contributed a three-point field goal as the Aztecs broke a school record with 17 three-pointers in the game. The Aztecs also set season-highs for points (96), rebounds (45), assists (20) and blocked shots (11). Sophomore guard Chase Tapley became the fifth different Aztec player to record a 20-point game this season as he poured in a career-high 24 points, with a 10-for-15 shooting performance. Sophomore guard James Rahon came off the bench to add 14 points and three assists, while senior guard D.J. Gay scored 12 points. Senior forward Billy White was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field en route to 10 points and six rebounds and senior center Brian Carlwell added eight points and a career-high 10 rebounds off the bench.
No Aztec player logged more than 26 minutes in the game with nine players seeing 15 or more minutes of action in the contest. The Aztecs enjoyed a 46-5 advantage in bench scoring.
Wednesday is the 65th meeting between the teams with Colorado State enjoying a 35-29 lead in the series. The Aztecs have won a school-record seven straight games in the series and 10 consecutive regular-season encounters, although several of those have been close calls. Last season, SDSU claimed a 72-71 victory in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament in Las Vegas. San Diego State has won on its last five visits to Moby Arena with two of those games decided by four points or less. In 2006, SDSU won 85-81 in Fort Collins with Brandon Heath and Marcus Slaughter combining for 53 points, and in 2008, when the Aztecs won 83-82 on a Lorrenzo Wade three-pointer with 21 seconds left.
