Arizona Intercollegiate Round 1 Results in PDF Format
With play suspended due to darkness, the San Diego State men's golf team is tied for first place at the 15-school Arizona Intercollegiate Monday at the par-71, 6,793-yard Arizona National Golf Club. The Aztecs tied Pepperdine with the low round of the first 18 holes at 1-over 285, despite battling high winds and even hail, and are currently 10 holes into the second round.
SDSU had three players tie for seventh place by opening the 54-hole event with an even-par 71, including juniors J.J. Spaun (San Dimas, Calif.) and Colin Featherstone (Fallbrook, Calif.) and freshman Todd Baek (Auckland, New Zealand).
Spaun twice eagled the par-5 fifth hole, while Featherstone notched a team-best seven birdies in the first 18 holes.
Junior Alex Kang (Oak Park, Calif.), who finished the fall season ranked third nationally by golfstat.com, is one stroke behind the trio with his first-round 72, which included three birdies, 11 pars and four bogeys. Senior Johan Carlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) completed the Aztec contingent with a 6-over-77 to tie for 58th.
Pepperdine's Andrew Putnam owns a two-stroke advantage on the individual leaderboard through 18 holes with a 6-under 65. Only six participants in the 93-golfer field broke par in the opening round.
The teams will complete the second round beginning at 7 a.m. PST on Tuesday morning, before continuing with the final 18 holes later in the day. Live results are available on golfstat.com and goaztecs.com.
