SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's water polo team will make its first appearance of 2011 Saturday when it plays host to its annual Alumni game. First sprint is slated for noon PT at Aztec Aquaplex.

Thirty former SDSU water polo student-athletes will be in attendance and will take on this year's squad, which is ranked No. 10 in the national preseason poll.

Among those expected to be at San Diego State's on-campus facility is USA Water Polo Hall of Famer Gubba Sheehy. One of the top women's water polo players of the 1990s, Sheehy began her career at San Diego State at 1991, before the Aztecs' women's team had entered the NCAA ranks. She parlayed her four-year SDSU career into a berth on the Women's National Team. Sheehy was part of the first women's water polo squad to play in the Olympic Games, and took home a silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.

Last week, the former Aztec was named USA Water Polo's Master of the Year and will be featured in Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd section of the Jan. 24 issue.

San Diego State will get its regular season underway Jan. 29 at the UCSB Invitational.
