SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Raymundo Reza (Denver, Colo.) was selected with the 20th pick in the 2011 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft by the Portland Timbers on Tuesday. The Timbers, one of two expansion teams set to begin play in the 2011 season, took Reza with the second pick of the second round.
Last season, Reza led the Aztecs in scoring for the third consecutive season with 18 points on six goals and six assists to garner second-team NSCAA All-Far West Region honors. A third-team Top Drawer Soccer and first-team all-Pac-10 pick, Reza also led the squad in goals, shots (70), shots on goal (25) and penalty kick goals (3). Reza started the final 55 games of his collegiate career, including all 19 in 2010.
Reza's selection came a year after SDSU had three players - Steve Beitashour (San Jose Earthquakes), Nick Cardenas (Kansas City Wizards) and Jamel Wallace (Seattle Sounders FC) - picked in the MLS SuperDraft.
San Diego State finished the 2010 season with a 10-7-2 record, the program's first 10-win campaign since 1994 (10-9-0).
