SAN DIEGO - The inaugural Stephen Strasburg 5K Fun Run & Walk will be held this Saturday, Jan. 15, at Tony Gwynn Stadium on the San Diego State campus. The event, a fundraiser to benefit the Aztec baseball program, will feature the former Aztec All-American pitcher along with SDSU Head Coach Tony Gwynn and current players in attendance.
Race check-in/registration begins at 7:00 a.m. at the stadium. The 5K run will get underway at 8:15 a.m. with the walkers scheduled to start at 8:30. The course is entirely within the beautiful San Diego State campus.
This family friendly event includes games, food and fun for the entire family. Following the walk/run, activities will include an autograph booth featuring current SDSU baseball players and other local celebrities, music, food and a Kids Fun Zone.
Among the celebrities slated to attend are Garry Templeton, Bret and Bob Boone, Mark Grant, Kurt Bevacqua, John Carney and Bob Chandler along with the Pad Squad and the San Diego Padres Friar. (Please note that no memorabilia will be permitted or signed at the autograph booth.)
In addition, there will be a silent auction with proceeds going to benefit the Aztec baseball program.
Registration for the Strasburg 5K is $45 for adults and $25 for students. Each participant will receive an all-inclusive package containing:
