COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Kristen Meier has been named the Mountain West Conference Diver of the Week for her record-setting efforts this past weekend. It is her second MWC award of the season.
Meier, who hails from Walden, N.Y., posted four NCAA zone-qualifying scores over the weekend in San Diego State's two dual meets against Tulane and Northern Colorado. On Friday, the junior scored 291.05 on the 3-meter springboard to win the event and qualify for the postseason. She also tallied a mark of 276.80 to lead all divers on the 1-meter springboard.
The following day, Meier completed her springboard sweep, setting pool and Aztec records in both the 1-meter (301.05) and 3-meter (314.85) events.
On Sunday at the UCLA Diving Invitational, she set a new program record in the platform event, tallying 217.90 points in the preliminary round. Meier went on to finish sixth of 22 competitors with her finals score of 207.85.
Her mark of 301.05 in the 1-meter is the fourth-best in the MWC this season while her score of 314.85 in the 3-meter ranks third-best in the league in 2010-11. Her score in the platform on Sunday is the best in the MWC this season.
The San Diego State swimmers and divers will next be in action on Saturday (Jan. 15) when the team travels to Bakersfield for a triple dual meet against UC San Diego, Fresno State and Cal State Bakersfield set to get underway at 1:00 p.m. at CSUB's Hillman Aquatic Center.
