SAN DIEGO - San Diego State outfielder Brandon Meredith has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association 2011 preseason All-America second team. The honor comes after his standout 2010 campaign during which he received all-Mountain West Conference first-team recognition.

The junior from Chula Vista, Calif., (Montgomery HS) led the Aztecs in hitting last season with a .383 average and a .484 on-base percentage. He also finished with 11 doubles, seven home runs, 53 runs scored and 54 runs batted in over 51 games. He recorded a team-high 15 multiple RBI games and was second on the squad with 23 multiple hit contests.

Meredith led the MWC in conference-game statistics with a .489 batting average and an on-base percentage of .575. He tied for the league lead with 29 runs scored and his 53 hits ranked third. In addition, his .705 slugging mark in 22 contests placed ninth. In the outfield he compiled a 1.000 fielding percentage with no errors in 51 chances.

Meredith concluded the 2010 season by hitting safely in 11 of SDSU's final 12 contests (.460) and drove in at least one run in 11 of those contests (20 RBI total).

The Aztecs will open their 2011 campaign on Friday, February 18, with a game against Winthrop at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
