SAN DIEGO - San Diego State wide receiver Vincent Brown took home the John Simcox Most Valuable Player award to cap the annual Aztec football banquet held Sunday evening at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina on Harbor Island. The senior from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. was one of 13 Aztec players who received awards on the night.

Defensive lineman Ernie Lawson and wide receiver Doug Deakin each won two awards during the ceremony and shared the Dr. R. Hardy/C.E. Peterson Captains' Award with senior safety Andrew Preston. Lawson also shared the Byron H. Chase Memorial Award for the defensive MVP with linebacker Miles Burris, while Deakin was chosen as the most inspirational player.

The tandem of junior quarterback Ryan Lindley and senior wide receiver DeMarco Sampson shared the Byron H. Chase Memorial Offensive Player of the Year award for the second straight season.

Logan Ketchum grabbed the President's Award for High Academic Achievement, while SDSU record-breaking freshman running back Ronnie Hillman was honored with the Outstanding Freshman Award. Brian Stahovich took home the Special Teams Outstanding Player of the Year Award for his league-leading punting effort.

Scout Team Player of the Year Awards were presented to Adam Dingwell (offense), Everett Beed (defense) and Jacob Driver (special teams). Student manager Mark Kellog was also honored with the A.Z.T.E.C. Student Manager Award.

Long-time San Diego State play-by-play announcer Ted Leitner presided over the event as the master of ceremonies, which was also attended by the Aztec coaching staff, athletic administration and friends and family members.

SDSU still has one game remaining, the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, on Thursday, Dec. 23, at 5 p.m. at Qualcomm Stadium.
