FULLERTON, Calif. - In the first of a pair of non-conference matches this week, the San Diego State volleyball team fell to Cal State Fullerton in three sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-17) Tuesday night at Titan Gym.

The loss dropped the Aztecs to 13-14 on the season while CSF improved to 22-5 as it won for the 10th time in its last 11 outings. The Titans are receiving votes in this week's AVCA national poll and are just two places outside the Top 25.

Sophomore middle blocker Andrea Hannasch led the SDSU offense with nine kills and also had six digs and three blocks. Teammate Paije Pearson led all players with six blocks in the contest while libero Kristi Jackels recorded 14 digs.

Three Titans ended the evening in double figures in kills led by Erin Sadler with 15. Torrie Brown and Kayla Neto had 12 and 11 kills respectively for the Titans, who hit .248 over the three sets while holding the Aztecs to a .143 attack percentage.

Cal State Fullerton got out of the gate quickly in the opening set, taking a 7-1 lead. The Aztecs closed the gap to two points at 10-8, but then fell behind by as many as six (22-16) before rallying to climb to within a point at 24-23, But a kill by Neto ended the set and gave the home side a 1-0 lead in the match.

The second set saw the Titans jump out to a 5-0 lead and hold the advantage over the remainder of the contest. Again SDSU was able to get within two at 11-9, but Fullerton then regained the momentum, slowly building on that slim lead to win by eight points.

The third set was close over the early stages as the teams were dead even at 12-12. From there, however, the Titans scored four consecutive points and did not allow SDSU to get closer than three the rest of the way. Cal State Fullerton went on to claim the set by five points and win the match 3-0.

The Aztecs will now return home for the first of three straight matches in San Diego to conclude their 2010 home season. The first contest in that run is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 13, against Cal State Bakersfield at 5:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym.
