AZTECS SET FOR PAIR OF NON-COFERENCE MATCHES THIS WEEK
San Diego State will play a pair of non-conference matches this week with one on the road and one at home. On Tuesday, Nov. 9, the Aztecs will make the short trip north to face Cal State Fullerton at 7:00 p.m. in Titan Gym. On Saturday, Nov. 13, SDSU be at home as it hosts Cal State Bakersfield for a match scheduled to get underway at 5:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym.
SERIES RECORDS
San Diego State holds a 42-4 edge in its series vs. Cal State Fullerton that dates back to the 1976 season. SDSU won the first 32 meeting between the teams with the Titans picking up their first victory over the Aztecs in 1989. The teams have split their most recent six matches with the Aztecs defeating the Titans in five-sets in Peterson Gym last year. CSF has won the last three matches played in Fullerton (2004, 2006, 2008).
SDSU is 3-0 against Cal State Bakersfield after defeating the Roadrunners both at home and on the road during the 2009 season. The first meeting between the teams came in Bakersfield during the 1992 campaign. The Aztecs captured that match in three sets.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Cal State Fullerton enters the week with a record of 21-5 and is receiving votes in this week¡¦s AVCA national poll. The Titans are led by middle blocker Erin Saddler (4.33 kills, 2.02 digs per set) and outside hitter Torrie Brown (3.19 kills per set). Kayla Neto is averaging 3.03 kills per set with a .333 hitting percentage. The Titans are hitting .257 as a team while holding opponents to a 1.75 attack percentage.
Cal State Bakersfield stands at 0-26 as the Roadrunners have had to deal with injuries throughout most of the season. CSUB is led by the hitting of Lindy DeGeare (3.07 kills, 2.06 digs per set) and Haleigh Haratyk (2.35 kills, 2.11 digs per set). Eight of the 14 players on the Roadrunner roster are from Bakersfield. Starting middle blocker Alysia Baker is a junior from Vista, Calif. (Tri-City Christian HS).
HANNASCH ON THE BLOCK
Middle blocker Andrea Hannasch tied her career high in kills last Thursday and then set a new career-best in kills on Saturday. At Utah on Thursday (Nov. 4), she recorded 16 kills to equal her personal best as an Aztec which she has achieved on five occasions. In the match at Brigham Young on Saturday (Nov. 6), she set new career bests with 18 kills and 23 points. Over SDSU¡¦s two matches last week she averaged 3.78 kills, 1.33 blocks, 1.00 digs and 4.61 points per set while hitting .329. Hannasch continues to be among the top blockers in the Mountain West Conference as overall average of 1.26 blocks per set ranks third in the MWC this week.
JACKELS DIGS CAREER BEST
Sophomore libero Kristi Jackels ranks set her SSU career high with 32 digs in the match against Brigham Young last Saturday (Nov. 6). She becomes just the seventh Aztec to ever record 30 or more digs in a match, joining current teammate Johnna Fouch (who had 30 vs. UC Irvine in September) on that list. Her previous high in digs came at UC Santa Barbara in the final match of the 2009 season. She ranks fourth in the conference in digs this week with an average of 3.62 per set.
NASH ON THE ATTACK
Freshman Summer Nash set her career high in kills for the fourth time in five matches with 16 against Utah last Thursday (Nov. 4). Nash has a string of six straight double-figures kill matches end with last Saturday¡¦s contest at Brigham Young. In those matches she averaged 3.55 kills per set. fÃ¥ Her .333 attack percentage in the contest at Brigham Young (Nov. 6) marks the 11th time this season that she has hit better than .300 in a match.
SHELTON SHINES
Freshman Raegan Shelton tied her career best with 20 kills in the win over Brigham Young last weekend (Nov. 6). Her three blocks and six digs in that match were both one shy of her season bests. She has been in double figures in kills in five of the past six matches and she is averaging 3.52 kills per set over that span.
FOUCH SETTING IT UP
Freshman setter Johnna Fouch¡¦s 54 assists in the win at Brigham Young (Nov. 6) was her second-highest total of the season and just one short of her career high. Her 54 assists vs. BYU was the sixth time this season that she has had more than 50 in a match. She continues to lead the MWC in assists with an average of 10.62 per set. She recorded her 10th double-double of the fall with 47 assists and 13 digs at Utah last week (Nov. 4).
OROPEZA ON DEFENSE
Freshman defensive specialist Kyla Oropeza has seen action in 25 of SDSU¡¦s 26 matches this season and started on three occasions. She recorded eight digs and a service ace at Utah last Thursday (Nov. 4) and followed that with six digs, an ace and an assist at Brigham Young two days later. Oropeza is averaging 1.33 digs per set and has appeared in 87 of the teams 98 sets this fall.

Freshman defensive specialist Justine Ricigliano tied her season high with seven digs in the win at Brigham Young on Nov. 6 ¡K As a team, the Aztecs have hit .300 or better in seven matches, their highest total since it reached that mark in nine matches during the 2005 campaign ¡K The Aztecs are 3-3 in five-set matches this season ¡K San Diego State has won six of its last nine matches ¡K SDSU¡¦s team blocking total (13.0 blocks - 1 solo, 24 assists) at Brigham Young on Nov. 6 tied its highest of the season. As a team SDSU has finished in double figures in blocking in nine matches this fall ¡K The win over BYU was only the second one this season in which SDSU has trailed in kills and digs ¡K Andrea Hannasch is the lone Aztec to have recorded at least one block in each of SDSU¡¦s matches this season ¡K Johnna Fouch is the only Aztec to have started every match this season. Fouch and libero Kristi Jackels are the only players to have appeared in every set in 2010.
