SAN DIEGO - San Diego State seniors Michaela DeJesus and Aubree Southwick were named to the Mountain West Conference all-tournament team, the league announced Saturday afternoon. Both were instrumental in the Aztecs advancing to the semifinals of the MWC Championship at SDSU Sports Deck this past week.
DeJesus, a midfielder/forward, scored the game-winning goal vs. Wyoming just 1 minute, 40 seconds into the game for her team-best fifth goal of the season. The Dublin, Calif., native also assisted on Kim Carcich's second goal of the season and the Aztecs' third of the game. In the semifinals vs. BYU, DeJesus had two shots, with one coming on goal. For the tournament, the senior finished with three shots, two shots on goal, one goal and an assist.
Southwick, meanwhile, shut out the Cowgirls in the quarterfinals to pick up her third blanking of the season. The senior keeper played all 90 minutes and was never threatened en route to finishing with zero saves. Southwick and the defense limited Wyoming to just seven shots. Against BYU, Southwick finished with three saves.
This is the second straight season in which both were named to the all-tournament team.
