The San Diego State women's basketball team will play the 1,000th game in program history on Friday, as the Aztecs face Minnesota in their first contest of the Nugget Classic at the University of Nevada in Reno. Game time is slated for 3 p.m. PT (or 30 minutes after the end of the first game) at the Lawlor Events Center.

SDSU is one of four squads participating in the tournament, joining the Gophers, North Carolina State and Nevada. The two latter schools will play one another in the first contest of Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. The losers of both games will then face each other in the consolation game Saturday at 5 p.m., while the winners will take part in the championship at 7 p.m.

The Aztecs are playing three contests this week and their first away from Viejas Arena. SDSU dropped a close 68-66 battle with UC Irvine on Tuesday evening at home, as two turnovers in the final two minutes led to four Anteater points and too little time to complete another rally.

San Diego State and Minnesota will tangle for the first time since 1984 and 1985, when the two schools split the series with each winning on its home court. The Aztecs haven't played a current Big Ten squad since a 1998 game with Penn State in San Diego.

The annual Nugget Classic is helping to raise funds for the Kay Yow Fund as well as the Moms on the Run Foundation for breast cancer. Both SDSU contests will feature a live audio broadcast with Jack Cronin, as well as live stats, on goaztecs.com.
