SAN DIEGO - San Diego State claimed a 153-127 dual meet victory over Mountain West Conference foe Utah this past weekend based on results at the Arena Invitational in Long Beach and the Wildcat Diving Invitational in Tucson in which both schools competed. Times and diving scores for a 16-event dual meet were recorded with the Aztecs registering the higher point total.
With the victory, the Aztecs improve to 7-0 overall on the season and 6-0 in the mountain West Conference. The Ute's record now stands at 4-2 (2-1 MWC)
SDSU athletes turned in the top times in 13 of the 14 swimming events contested as part of the dual meet as the Aztecs had three swimmers finish as double winners.
Notching the top time in two events were Kelly Marquenie (500 and 100 free), Stephanie Koch (100 and 200 free), Leona Jennings (100 and 200 back) and Katelyn Weddle (100 and 200 breast). The other SDSU best marks included Brooke Vessey in the 200 fly, Kim Bierwith in the 50 free and Mikaela Macklin in the 200 individual medley.
San Diego State's team of Jennings, Weddle, Bierwith and Koch recorded the top time in both the 200 medley relay with the best 400 freestyle relay time turned in by the foursome of Bierwith, Koch, Jennings and Shaida Solimani.
Utah's Hannah Caron turned in the top time in the 100 butterfly to win that race for the Utes.
The diving portion of the SDSU-Utah dual meet came from result at the Wildcat Diving Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona.
Kristen Meier took top honors between the school in the 1-meter diving competition while Aina Eill and Anna Steiner picked up points for third and fourth-place finish respectively. Utah's Ellis Walters won the 3-meter event with Meier taking second.
The San Diego State swimming and diving team will next be in action on Saturday, Dec. 4, when it visits Las Vegas for a dual meet against UNLV at 1:00 p.m. at the Rebel's Buchanan Natatorium.
