SAN DIEGO - San Diego State water polo head coach Carin Crawford announced her team's 2011 schedule on Friday. The slate features 12 individual home games and the two-day Aztec Invitational in mid-March.
Fans can get their first glimpse at the 2011 Aztecs when they take on the SDSU alumni in the annual alumni game at Aztec Aquaplex on Jan. 22 at noon.
San Diego State will get its regular season underway at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational Jan. 29-30, before returning to Montezuma Mesa for its home opener against long-time foe Long Beach State on Feb. 5. Following its tilt with the 49ers, the Aztecs will have a week off before playing host to 2010 NCAA tournament participant Marist on Feb. 11.
After taking on the Red Foxes, San Diego State will make the short trip north to La Jolla to participate at the UCSD Invitational Feb. 12-13. The Aztecs will have one more game within county lines when they open Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play at home vs. USC, the defending national champion, on Feb. 19.
With two weeks' worth of games in San Diego behind them, the Aztecs will hit the road the weekend of Feb. 26-27 to play in the UC Irvine Invitational before returning home once again for a two-week homestand.
San Diego State will continue its MPSF schedule against NCAA finalist, Stanford, on March 5. The next day, UCI comes to The Mesa for a 1 p.m. tilt. The following week, March 12-13, SDSU will play host to San Jose State (March 12) and the Aztec Invitational before welcoming Maryland and Whittier for a doubleheader on March 20.
SDSU is set to travel to Hawaii for a three-day trip that will include a March 24 conference game against the Rainbow Wahine. The final day two days will be spent playing in the Hawaii Invitational March 25-26.
Brown and Arizona State will head to America's Finest City April 1 and 2, respectively. The matchup with the Bears will start at 1 p.m., while the MPSF contest with the Sun Devils will commence at 10 a.m. After facing ASU, the Aztecs will return to the pool at 4 p.m. to play Fresno Pacific.
On two consecutive Saturdays San Diego State will find themselves on the road for MPSF games. April 9 will feature the Aztecs and NCAA participant California, while the 16th of April will showcase SDSU and another NCAA tournament participant, UCLA. Both matches are set for 1 p.m.
San Diego State will close the regular season at home when it plays host to UC San Diego in the annual Harper Cup. The Aztecs have never dropped a Harper Cup game in the nine-year history of the contest. The 10th edition of the game will take place April 22 at 3 p.m.
The MPSF Championship is set for April 29-May 1 in San Jose, Calif.
