SAN DIEGO - Rickey Baylon has signed a National Letter of Intent with San Diego State and the men's tennis team, head coach Gene Carswell announced Friday.
"We are very excited to add Rickey to our SDSU men's tennis program," Carswell said. "It goes without saying that he'll be an integral part of our program for years to come.
"We believe Rickey is rising in the tennis world. He's accomplished so much in junior tennis, while playing ahead of his age group. We look forward to a very productive playing career from Rickey and know he'll help us attain our program's goals. The signing of Rickey goes along with our commitment to recruit and sign the very best of players from California."
Baylon, a native of Fullerton, Calif., is set to step foot on Montezuma Mesa in time for 2011-12 season. Baylon, one of California's top prospects, currently holds a national singles ranking of No. 40 and is the 12th-best doubles player among the 18-under U.S. juniors.
Most recently, Baylon advanced to the singles championship in the U18 division at the 2010 Lakewood National Open. During his playing days, Baylon has captured four national junior open doubles titles in the 16-and-under division and finished in fourth place at the United States National Clay Court Championships earlier this year.
