The San Diego State women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at New Mexico Saturday night at UNM Soccer Complex. The Aztecs fall to 3-8-3 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain West Conference, while the Lobos improve to 8-1-3 (2-0 MWC).

After both teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half, New Mexico dented the scoreboard first at 54:33 when Zaneta Wyne put her shot past SDSU goalkeeper Aubree Southwick from two yards out.

Nearly 12 minutes later, the Aztecs received an equalizing goal from Marisa Fraticelli. The goal, which was headed past the Lobos goalkeeper, came off a corner kick was assisted by freshman Megan Erskine. The score was Fraticelli's second of the season.

With the score tied, SDSU controlled the pace of the match for the next 10 minutes. Unfortunately for San Diego State, Jordan Craig beat SDSU's defenders in the box and put her shot just out of the reach of Southwick to record what would be the game-winner.

Down by one goal and 13 minutes left in the match, San Diego State had a couple of good scoring chances from freshman Haley Palmer and senior Britney Bennett, but each shot was denied by UNM's Kelli Cornell.

The evenly played match on the field was also reflected in the stats. New Mexico held a slim lead in shots (15-13) and shots on goal (6-5). San Diego State, meanwhile, owned the edge in corner kicks, 3-2. Both goalkeepers were credited with four saves each.

The Aztecs return to action on Thursday, Oct. 14, when they play host to Air Force at SDSU Sports Deck. First tap is slated for 4 p.m. PT.
