The San Diego State cross country team will compete in the Triton Classic Saturday on the campus of UC San Diego. The 6,000-meter race, which is slated for a 10:15 a.m. PT start, will be held on the UCSD campus and will begin at RIMAC field and end on the Triton track.

Last weekend, the Aztecs took third of 12 teams at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.

Marianne Hogan led SDSU once again, winning the 6K race in a course-record effort. Hogan broke away from the lead pack around the two-mile mark and stormed to a course record time of 22 minutes, 4.2 seconds. The time bested Alicia Freese's record of 22:07 set last year. Hogan won the race, which had 169 entrants, by over 18 seconds over runner-up Anne Lydens of Pomona-Pitzer (22:22.4).

Sara Beyers was the next San Diego State runner to cross the finish line, taking 15th in 23:13.0. Alma Escobar (21st, 23:24.6) and Jordan Davis (27th, 23:32.4) each ran Aztec best times on a course that was hillier and had more turns than the previous week's race at the Stanford Invitational. Amy Brown finished 38th in 23:57.4 to round out SDSU's top five.

Sabrina Rathor (64th, 24:52.9) and Melissa Bunn (79th, 25:21.1) each set personal-best times, while Hannah Winokur (115th, 26:34.6) and Amy Reaser (147th, 28:23.7) both made their collegiate debut at the 6K distance.

Saturday's event will feature a field of teams from both the Division I and II ranks, as well as representatives from the junior college level. Among the participating schools are UC Irvine, which took second over the Aztecs last week at Pomona-Pitzer, Cal State Bakersfield, Pacific, the host Tritons, Cal Poly Pomona, San Bernardino and Central Arizona.

Last year at the Triton Classic, SDSU finished seventh of 13 schools. Hogan is the team's top returner after taking 30th of 122 runners with a time of 23:51.8. Davis (53rd, 24:54.1), Beyers (54th, 24:54.7), Bunn (74th, 26:00.4) and Rathor (87th, 27:16.9) will each look to improve on last year's performance.

The course includes varied terrain on grass and dirt trails with sidewalk crossings. For directions and more information on the Triton Classic, visit http://www.ucsdtritons.com/pdf8/715538.pdf. Results from Saturday's races will be posted at ucsdtritons.com and flashresults.com/flashwest.
