LOS ANGELES - San Diego State sophomore Alicia Aguilar waited out the rain in the Los Angeles area and returned to the court in the afternoon only to be defeated in the round of 32 of the singles qualifying draw at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
Aguilar and her counterpart, No. 33 Nazari Urbina of Texas A&M, walked onto the court Tuesday afternoon, but the rain forced the postponement.
Due to the continuing rain Wednesday morning, both student-athletes stayed in their hotel rooms until this afternoon when the weather improved.
No. 65 Aguilar, however, was not able to break Urbina as the Aggie went on to record the 6-3, 6-4 victory.
As a result of the inclement weather, 51st-ranked Julia Trunk, who was scheduled to compete in the qualifying consolation draw, decided to withdraw from the tournament. Olivia Colman, who had her match postponed, will compete on Thursday in the consolation draw to be contested at UCLA. Colman will face No. 68 Nelly Ciolkolwski of Clemson at 9 a.m. PT.
