COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State sophomore Marianne Hogan has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the first weekly award for the Bedford, Quebec (Canada) native.

Hogan broke away from the lead pack around the two-mile mark of the 6,000-meter race at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational and stormed to a course record time of 22 minutes, 4.2 seconds. The time bested Alicia Freese's record of 22:07 set last year. Hogan won the race, which had 169 entrants, by more than 18 seconds over runner-up Anne Lydens of Pomona-Pitzer (22:22.4).

Hogan's win helped the Aztecs claim a third-place finish of 12 teams.

Hogan and the rest of the SDSU team will be back in action Saturday at the UCSD Invitational in La Jolla.
