LOS ANGELES - San Diego State sophomore Alicia Aguilar advanced in the singles qualifying draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Aguilar was one of three Aztecs to compete on the day.

The 65th-ranked Aguilar took down fellow Mountain West Conference foe Jana Albers of UNLV. Albers, ranked No. 72 in the preseason ITA singles poll, was a straight sets victim, falling to SDSU's super sophomore, 6-3, 6-4.

San Diego State's highest ranked player, No. 51 Julia Trunk, was unable to advance as she dropped a tough three-set match to 38th-ranked Alexa Guarachi of Alabama. The senior dropped the first set, 3-6, battled to win the second 7-5, but was ultimately dropped in the third, 3-6, to land in the consolation draw.

Olivia Colman suffered the same fate as Trunk as she was downed by 81st-ranked Petra Januskova of Penn State. Colman was on the wrong end of a 6-2, 6-0 decision and joins Trunk in the consolation bracket.

The prestigious tournament, which features the top players in the Division I tennis, continues Wednesday.

Aguilar will face No. 33 Nazari Urbina of Texas A&M at 4 p.m. PT. Urbina defeated No. 86 Ecaterina Vasenina of South Florida, 6-2, 6-1, to earn the right to face Aguilar.

Trunk, meanwhile, will face No. 69 Ana Maria Contenescu of Oklahoma. The Sooner lost to No. 55 Sandhya Nagaraj of North Carolina State, 6-3, 6-1.

Lastly, Colman will face No. 89 Courtney McLane of Alabama, who was defeated by No. 37 Sonja Molnar of Iowa.
