Windy City Collegiate Classic - Day 1 Results in PDF Format

On a day when only one competitor in the 58-player field finished at even par, the San Diego State women's golf team posted a 36-over 604 to tie for fourth place after two rounds Monday at the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Highland Park, Ill. The Aztecs carded a 304 in the morning, before shaving four strokes off that total in the afternoon, and are currently tied for fourth place with host Northwestern at the par-71, 6,108-yard Northmoor Country Club.

All five SDSU golfers are in the top 30 overall with sophomore Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) leading the way in a four-way tie for eighth place with a 5-over 147, including a first-round 73. Wong had two birdies, 12 pars and four bogeys through the first 18 holes, but then started the second round with bogeys on three of her first four holes. She would make up ground later with birdies on the par-4 14th and the par-5 third hole to shoot 3-over 74.

Sophomore Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) was one of two Aztecs to jump in the standings from the first to the second round, rising four spots with her second-round 75, highlighted by four birdies, to tie for 19th place with a 152. Classmate Gina Clark (Palm Desert, Calif.) posted a pair of 77s to tie for 19th place with a 10-over 152, while senior Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) carded only one birdie over the 36 holes and is 29th with a 155.

Junior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), who placed third at the team's season-opener in Albuquerque two weeks ago, ran into trouble early, notching two bogeys, two double bogeys and a triple bogey on her first six holes of the event. She answered with three birdies in a row, but then posted bogeys on five of her final six holes to come in at 11-over 82. Enarsson found more consistency in the afternoon, shaving eight strokes off her first-round total with a 74 to move from 52nd place all the way into a tie for 30th.

Reigning national champion Purdue leads the tournament by two strokes over Iowa State at 15-over 583, while Cyclone Prima Thammaraks is first on the individually at even-par 142.

San Diego State tees off Tuesday morning for the final round of the Windy City Collegiate Classic beginning at 8 a.m. CT. The Aztecs will be paired with New Mexico and Northwestern and will start from hole No. 1. Live results will be available on golfstat.com.
