SAN DIEGO - With the official kick off to the season two weeks away, the San Diego State women's basketball team garnered eight votes in the 2010-11 Associated Press preseason top 25 national poll, released Friday. The Aztecs earned the 37th-most votes overall and were one of two MWC schools mentioned in the poll, joining TCU, who was ranked 23rd nationally (117 votes).

San Diego State earned votes in the Associated Press Top 25 six times a year ago, including in the preseason, and achieved a No. 23 national ranking on Nov. 23. The No. 23 selection marked the first time the program was ranked since March of 1995, when the team ended up 22nd following a 24-6 campaign, and is the school's 41st all-time appearance overall. The Aztecs received votes on six occasions in 2008-09, which was a program first since 1997.

In 2010-11, SDSU has potentially seven regular-season games against teams receiving votes in the AP preseason poll, including a match-up with No. 16 UCLA to open the campaign on Nov. 12, in San Diego. Besides TCU, who the Aztecs play twice, No. 8 Texas A&M (Dec. 30), North Carolina State (Nov. 27), Dayton (Dec. 18) and USC (Dec. 19) are all ranked or receiving votes.

After winning the Mountain West Conference championship and advancing to the school's first NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2010, San Diego State earned a No. 20 ranking in the final ESPN/USA Today Coaches top 25 poll. The ranking was the Aztecs' first since the coaches' poll inception since 1986. The Associated Press did not release a final poll at the conclusion of the 2009-10 campaign.

San Diego State plays its first and only exhibition game this Thursday, Nov. 4, when UC San Diego travels south to Viejas Arena for a 7 p.m. tip-off. General admission tickets are only $4 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster at 619-220-8497 or via ticketmaster.com. Fans can also visit the Viejas Arena Box Office or the Aztec Ticket Office at Qualcomm Stadium (window E).
