SAN DIEGO - The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation has been awarded an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament, the league recently announced. San Diego State joined the MPSF earlier this month and will begin a full schedule in 2012.

The Aztecs, which also competes in the MPSF in water polo, join national power Stanford, Oregon, Denver, UC Davis, St. Mary's and Fresno State as the teams who will vie for the automatic bid, which will go to the MPSF tournament champion.

In the past, the winner of the MPSF tournament advanced to an NCAA Play-in game, where it would have to beat a team to advance to the actual NCAA tournament. Stanford has been the most successful conference team, capturing six consecutive MPSF tournament titles and 13 conference championships in 16 years.

Kylee White, who was named the first head women's lacrosse coach at San Diego State last month, is currently recruiting and filling out the coaching staff.
