BOULDER CITY, Nev. - The San Diego State women's golf team dropped one slot in the final standings, settling for 13th place in its final 2010 fall tournament Wednesday at the UNLV Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Boulder City, Nev. The Aztecs posted a 23-over 311 in the final round for a three-day, 54-hole total of 41-over 905 at the par-72, 6,329-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club.
Sophomore Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) was SDSU's top finisher, taking 39th overall with a 9-over 225, including a 79 in the final 18 holes. Knight's 225 was her season-low by six strokes, after posting an 18-over 231 at the Windy City Intercollegiate earlier this month.
Three Aztecs tied for 54th place at 12-over 228, including senior Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.), who bounced back from her opening-round 82 to post consecutive 1-over 73s. Arcala moved up 24 slots on the individual leaderboard to tie with teammates Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.), who had a final-round 77, and Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden). Enarsson dropped from a tie for 24th place through 36 holes with her 10-over 82, which saw her post two double bogeys and a triple bogey in a five-hole span.
Rounding out the San Diego State contingent was senior Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.), who carded a 10-over 82, to finish 80th with a 238 in her first action of the 2010-11 campaign.
Almost every squad saw a significant rise in its team score from the second to the third round with no one breaking par. Arkansas still ran away from the competition, posting an 18-under 846 to win by 23 strokes over Kent State, which moved from third to second place with its final-round 8-over 296. Razorback Emily Tubert, who led after each of the three days, earned medalist honors with her 11-under 205, five strokes better than three golfers who tied for second at 6-under 210.
The San Diego State women's golf team resumes action in 2011, when it participates in the Arizona Lady Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., Feb. 7-8.
