BOULDER CITY, Nev. - The San Diego State women's golf team took 18 strokes off its first-round score to move from 14th to 12th place Tuesday at the UNLV Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Boulder City, Nev. The Aztecs posted a second-round even-par 288, after logging a 306 over the first 18 holes at the par-72, 6,329-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club. SDSU remains at 18-over par for the tournament with a 36-hole total of 594, and is just one stroke out of 11th and six out of ninth place.

Four of the five Aztec golfers were within one stroke of par and posted significant improvements over Monday's first round. Sophomore transfer Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) fired a season-best and team tournament-low 1-under 71, including two birdies, 15 pars and only one bogey to move into an eight-way tie for 24th place along with junior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden). Enarsson maintained her spot in the standings with a 72, highlighted by four birdies after starting off the day with a double bogey on her second hole.

SDSU sophomore Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) was seven strokes better from her day-one effort with an even-par 72, to move from 73rd to 60th place with a 7-over 151. The biggest improvement from the first to the second round for the Aztecs went to senior Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.), who began the event with an 82, and followed it up with a 1-over 73. Arcala was at 1-under on the first nine holes, but then bogeyed three consecutive holes after making the turn. She finished strong, however, with pars on the next five holes followed by a birdie to finish off the day.

Senior Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) was the only Aztec to not improve from the first round, recording her second consecutive 78 to drop from 64th to 83rd place with a 156.

Arkansas, which is ranked 19th nationally by golfstat.com, extended its first-round lead from 17 to 18 strokes with a 12-under 276. Razorback Emily Tubert also stayed atop the individual leaderboard with a 4-under 68 to move her total out to 13-under 131, six strokes better than two golfers who are tied for second at 7-under 137.

San Diego State concludes the UNLV Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown and its 2010 fall schedule on Wednesday with the third and final round, beginning at 8 a.m. PT with a shotgun start. Live results are available on golfstat.com.
