IRVINE, Calif. - The San Diego State men's tennis team wrapped up play Saturday at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regionals at UC Irvine.
The duo of Hunter Nicholas and Giovanni Vaglietti upset the sixth-seeded team of Peter Lucassen and Jaak Poldma from USC in the round of 16. Nicholas and Vaglietti recorded an 8-5 victory before falling to the top-seeded team of Amit Inbar and Nick Meister of UCLA, 8-3, later in the quarterfinals.
The rest of the Aztecs who advanced into the round of 16 did not fare as well. SDSU's Javier Pulgar and Jose Sierra-Short fell to Pepperdine's team of Hugh Clarke and Mouseg Hovhannisyan, 8-4, on the other end of the doubles bracket. Sierra-Short also lost his singles consolation match 6-2, 6-4, to the University of Hawai'i's Jared Spiker.
