SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State cross country team will look to finish its regular season on a high note this Friday when it travels to the Cal State Fullerton campus to compete at the 2010 Titan Cross Country Invitational. The 5,000-meter race is slated to begin at 5 p.m. PT and will start on the CSU Fullerton campus track and loop around the campus' many asphalt roadways.
Friday's meet will mark the 12th consecutive year that the Aztecs have competed in the Titan Invitational. SDSU will look to improve on last year's season-opening effort at the Titan Invite where it finished ninth out of 26 schools. The Aztecs where led by star runner Marianne Hogan, who was running in her first career collegiate race at the time. The then freshman Hogan completed the 6K course in 23 minutes, 52 seconds en-route to a 21st-place individual finish.
The Aztecs are coming off their best effort of the season at the UCSD Triton Classic last week, where they recorded a second-place finish out of 11 teams. SDSU put two runners in the top-10 and five in the top-27 to finish only behind Cal Poly Pomona.
Hogan once again led the Aztecs and recorded a second-place finish with a time of 22:24.5. Hogan's effort earned her a second consecutive Mountain West Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week Award.
Sara Beyers (9th, 23:15.0), Amy Brown (19th, 23:52.3) and Josefine Koskinen (21st, 23:58.5) all logged season-best finishes to help the Aztecs record their best overall team finish since Sept. 20, 2008.
After the Aztecs wrap up their regular season at the Triton Invitational, they will have one week to prepare for the 2010 Mountain West Conference Championships on Oct. 29 in Laramie, Wyo.
